During the Heian period it was a place for religious training and leisure. Later it served as a burial ground, while in the Muromachi period it became a battleground. |

Cremation mound in the grounds of Kyoto University (Kyoto City Registered Historic Site)
Location: Oiwake-cho, Kitashirakawa, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City The site was discovered in 1978. From the later Heian period and into the Kamakura period, it was enshrined as a cremation ground. As a source of information on changes in cremation techniques, the site is said to be invaluable. |
